They all drink like crazy. As a matter of routine, at Brideshead cocktails are available from late afternoon, then everyone dresses for dinner, then they have formal cocktails, then they drink wine all through the meal then the men have port. Not to mention Sebastian having his own stash in his room. How on earth did anyone stay sober?

What, painting and chatting and reading, they are all nice things to do, writing letters and visiting other rich people... I imagine the meals are all very long... Lunching out? Afternoon tea? I think waiting till late afternoon shows a great deal of restraint! share
