Thief's Tangerine Dream soundtrack nominated for Razzie?

Why? It seemed perfect for the misty, neon visuals of the film. I always seem to remember it being thought of as "cutting edge".

A Google search doesn't reveal much about the nomination or the rationale for it. The recording itself seemed to be subject to some mis-issues with different versions and missing songs, but this can't be the justification for a Razzie nomination.

Ahead of its time, I guess.

The Razzies, much like the Oscars, are a load of balls.

Applies for most awards out there.

The soundtrack was great as a companion piece to images, but there's something lost when you listen to it off screen. Unlike score to Mann's "Manhunter", which is a masterpiece (apart from those two pop songs).

Do you have any tobacco?

The one thing I remember most vividly about this movie IS the soundtrack, and thinking how amazing and interesting it was. It was my first introduction to Tangerine Dream. I watched it again last night, and was surprised at how much the soundtrack overpowers the movie at times, and I do not mean that as a criticism, but it is something that I would hate in another film or with another artist. I just happen to think it works very well in this particular circumstance. I have always been under the impression that most people enjoyed the soundtrack, was surprised to see this as a Razzie nomination, maybe it was a slow year?

The soundtrack was outstanding!!! This is like Razzies should be given a Razzie for being a terrible-ass award! No way. I know a lot of 'critics' and audiences panned the score but I thought that's a key element of what make the film spectacular. Loved everytime the synth score came on. LOVED LOVED the score during avenging scenes in the end. Caan kicked ass in every scene he was in. Such an underrated actor.

Surprised to hear of the Razzie nod. I bought the cd.
The music adds to the movie's mood.

The score didn't quite fit the film. I feel that the synth was overdone and somewhat distracting in some parts of the film. The synth should have been less layered and more minimalist. However, the score was definitely a better choice than what Mann's initial choice would have been which would have been a bunch of blues compositions.

^^ You don't know a good score when you hear one, bub.

The score is a huge reason why this movie is so badass.

It was perfect. The fact it was nominated for a Razzie is an utter joke

The score is my favorite thing about the movie and makes it better because of it.

Love the soundtrack. Was listening to it the other night. It beautifully complements the film's style and mood.

I wore out two cassettes and one CD copies so far, LOVE this soundtrack! Somebody soulless put this up for a Razzie....

I'd never heard of the Razzies until 1985 or 1986, so I guess they were trying to get some publicity for their own organization.

I love the music. Granted, I know Tangerine Dream did a lot of soundtracks back in the early 80s, so maybe after a while, they had the temptation to phone it in. But in Thief, the music is fitting.
