Don't understand why Hardin and spencer....

At the end when Hardin was in the shed and when the big cajun kicked in the door why did Hardin just stand there waiting to be shot? He could have rushed him or something before he got that shot off. Also the other "Good Cajuns" must have heard the shot.. So they must have know that the others was going after them. Any thoughts?

what i didnt understand was when hardin was shot & lying on the ground...why did the other cajuns not finish him off when they came in? they ran after spencer instead.

Probably because he had just been shot and wasn't moving.
