Just don't think too hard

I enjoyed the film, its entertaining but if you think a lot of makes no sense.
Am i supposed to believe these Louisiana NG know nothing about Cajuns even though they live in the same state?
These guardsmen, most of whom born and raised in Louisiana know nothing of the terrain?
Also the portrayal of the NG troops in an insult to the US military. My brother and my bf are both USMC, both Iraq War vets, and laughed at the "soldiers" lack of discipline. That would never be allowed in any unit.
The most realistic part of the movie is the party at the end. Nobody can party like Cajuns!

hard core at your door

I just watched this, and I also enjoyed the party the most. Those were the "good Cajuns" as Carradine put it.

Well, in all fairness, if you were looking for an honest depiction of US military, these soldiers would be raping and torturing cajuns with impunity.

It was a metaphor and these national guardsman were unruly very much like some of the troops in Vietnam.
