Blu Ray?
Region 1 DVD from 2001 is going for $75 on Amazon and I'm sure is not up to par picture-wise. Any news on this little gem coming out either BR or updated DVD?

shareThere is a region 2 blu-ray. That was released last November: http://www.play.com/DVD/Blu-ray/4-/36963083/Southern-Comfort/Product.h tml?searchstring=Southern+Comfort&searchsource=0&searchtype=al lproducts&urlrefer=search
I don't know why it hasn't been released on region 1. If you use torrent you can find blu-ray rips online.
So either get a region free blu-ray player (a lot of players can be region free with a code) or you can download it illegal.
I would love to own this film, but 75 dollars is too much. I may have to look into getting the region free code or just buying it used, but even most of those used discs are being sold for high prices. Supply and demand.
The cover art on the blu-ray looks wonderful. I really hope it's on blu-ray here in the States soon. I also contacted Amazon.com and asked them to please order new copies of the film, and they told me they would pass my message on and to just keep checking back on the site.
They also said I was not the only one to ask about the film. Perhaps if more people do, they will get new copies on there.
It most likely is OOP here in the US. Hence the ridiculously high prices.
Well, thanks for the replies, guys. With so many classic cult titles being released by Shout Factory, Synapse, Severin etc. I am sure this will get released in an amazing package. It's Walter Hill after all! The Wild Geese just came out on blu ray here, so I have hope.
Yeah and Shout Factory now has a deal with whoever owns the MGM catalogue to release Blus of their catalogue titles. Look at Shout Factories' line-up this year. Almost ALL MGM titles. Fingers crossed people!

I watched the R2 Blu-ray last night, and the picture quality is underwhelming. Not crap, but not worth getting a multi region player for.
Maybe a US company will go back to the original materials - it happens a lot with Arrow in the UK, and Blue Underground/Shout factory etc. making different versions from the same source.
Shout! Factory are releasing this film in a DVD/Blu-ray combo pack on July 8th.
