At the very end we see Poole yelling at Hardin to wake up - the whole movie has been Hardin's dreaming.

Next Poole yells at him to get up as the patrol is leaving - close up of panic look on Hardin's face - fade to end.

Sorry, I can't agree with you. That ending seems pretty lame to me.

The whole 'it was only a dream in the end' scenario is a poor tool for weak writing.

It's only my opinion. Climb down.
