French Cajuns

Aren't the French viewed as effeminate in America because of what the macho Bart Simpson said about them?

reply

First off... French Cajun, is redundant. There IS no other kind of Cajun. Secondly... I'd LOVE to see you call one of those Cajuns, a pussy. The "French" might be effeminate, but over in Louisiana, dey ain't no such a tang as one of dem Effeminate Cajuns. I've been around Coonasses and Cajuns my whole life... you don't call dem pussies... uh uh. Thems fightin' werds.

Shoot him, cut out his tongue, then shoot his tongue. And trim that beard.

French Canadians are a different breed of cats then the French. And Cajuns are a particularly tough branch derived from the Acadian French out of Nova Scotia. No resemblance to the French French. Like a Texan to a Londoner.

reply

yeah Texan's are wusses, no offence, but u are.In general American's are considered quite well weak, you don't get real men in America, that's why their so many guns in the states, don't have the bottle for a good decent knife fight, that's why you football boys wear Armour, again even the French are tougher than the Americans.

reply

Haha. Tell a Texan that to his face why don't you?

reply

i have , he was too busy eating to notice.

They are not really "French" or "French canadian".

They would presumably be the offspring of people who migrated from Canada in the 1750s down to that area of the USA because they were being persecuted by the British. In French Canadian terms they would be the offspring of the original traders and trappers that colonized Canada and would have had extensive dealings with Aboriginals (the Native Indians in Canada). What makes them unique is they are a little like a "history in a bottle". They maintain their cultural and ethnic identity by preserving the cultural elements and traditions that they originally brought over with them to North America from France. The traditions, the accents, the music, the the fiddle style, the songs. Those are all things that would have long been displaced and forgotten in France and French Canada but the ancestors of the Cajuns preserved them because it's their only link to their identity.

A great way to under stand it is through music analogy. Listen to old traditional bluegrass folk tunes. They resemble nothing like modern country music. They also don't resemble modern blue grass music either. They are very distinct in sound and feel and you can sort of hear how they are the foundation of what other types of music in that genre that came later on are based on. But someone into modern county would be very bored listening to fiddle break down style.

Funny thing, while we Europeans might to some degree share the notion of French as "effeminate" (although it's more like the French are viewed as somewhat untrustworthy, lazy and having been born with a silver spoon in their mouths), the French really are the bullies of Europe. They are unashamedly patriotic and jingoist. You can get fined in France for using English or others foreign languages in your advertising! Besides, the French have bypassed all that "White Man's Burden" and post-colonialist self-hating. The French Foreign Legion still shows up from time to time in foreign capitals, eliminating undesirable leaders acting against the interests of La Francophonie. French companies exploit former colonies with impunity.

The French immigration policy is called assimilation. While other European countries promote "multiculturalism" and "cultural diversity", in France, there's just one language, one culture and one religion, French. Racism and antisemitism aren't such a big deal in France.

General Charles de Gaulle, who later acted as a president, is one of the reasons why the French are regarded as uncompromising troublemakers. He kicked the NATO troops out of France and developed their own nuclear weapons, because he was at odds with the Americans and the British for them not showing enough respect for the France. And while the British and the Americans fought in the World Wars primarily for the Freedom and Democracy, the French participated so they could rattle their sabres with their arch-enemies, the Germans.

No wonder the American political system is mainly copied from the French one.
