Other films like this??

Like white lightning, deliverance, etc. I love these types of movies, what are some more I might like. Some deep south film where everything goes bad in a hell of a hurry.

There was a whole genre of "the South is redneck hell" movies in the 70s. Most of them played as the second feature at drive-ins. A few names I recall are Macon County Line, Return to Macon County (starring the young Nick Nolte and Don Johnson) and Jackson County Jail (amazingly weird cast list, including Tommy Lee Jones, Howard Hessman, Betty Thomas and Robert Carradine in supporting roles). They're mostly a mediocre bunch, but fit the profile you're looking for. Check 'em out.

Thanks a lot, I'll check 'em out. I'm a sucker for good ole boy movies and anything Tommy Lee Jones.

I'm not sure what you mean. DELIVERANCE is nothing like this. Both are superb films, but not anything alike. This is a movie about lynch mob mentality. DELIVERANCE is the exact opposite.

Films like SOUTHERN COMFORT:
THE LONG THE SHORT AND THE TALL
OX BOW INCIDENT
HANG EM HIGH
THE BRAVADOS
PATHS OF GLORY
PLATOON
SHAKE HANDS WITH THE DEVIL

All of them super classics. A theme that never goes out of date.

How do we know it's not a fake? It looks like a fake to me.

Hmm.

The similarities are only superficial; Deliverance is fundamentaly an ecologocial-themed cautionary tale masquerading as a survivalist adventure.

You're right, per the posts I quoted, it's not in the south and things didn't go bad for the protagonists. No similarity at all.

Working in the movie business since -92

Since when is Georgia not the south?

I'd toss in Rituals, as it has a group of doctors being pursued by something that grows more and more aggressive.

There's a fun film called TRAPPED, with Henry Silva, that hasn't already been mentioned. It's out on Code Red DVD in the US.

Touch of Evil (Orson Welles, 1958).

Thanks, looks great...IMDB titles it "Baker County, U.S.A." for some reason

How about DEATH HUNT with Charles Bronson - http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0082247/
Doesn't take place in the south, but I can see anyone who liked SOUTHERN COMFORT also digging this one.
