Was that real pigs in the end? Did they get slaughtered for the film? I don't see anywhere on the trivia section that mentions it. Also, Walter Hill directs Southern Comfort and Extreme Prejudice, and in Extreme Prejudice that slaughter actual rats. . .

Yeah it sure looked like they actually shot, killed and skinned those pigs. Who knows what they did with em after. Although there is a whole fire-roasting pig in the scene, so I assume that those pigs ended up for food as well.
shareSometimes in older movies & even in documentary footage today, the animals were being killed anyway and the crew just filmed it. Though I'm only guessing right now, maybe someone who was on set has discussed it somewhere before, I'd say the cajun town was real and they killed and cooked the pigs for food, so they died a slaughterhouse style death which was filmed and added to the film for realism. No actors were involved in the scene which is the telltale.

When I was young and first saw the movie I found it distressing (same as certain scenes in Platoon) but as I've got older, its just a harsh reality of life. Lots of us eat meat and don't even think about where it comes from.
