DVD questions (length + aspect ratio). Anyone see original release?

I remember seeing this on tv in the 80s & loved it as a teen. I always wanted to see it again, but it never plays anywhere. So I''m delighted to see it on dvd, however I notice from Amazon's site that it is presented in full screen format & was curious if this was right. I suspect this is an altered for TV version. The imdb mentions no 2nd (longer) time, but says it was edited for re-rating (from R to PG) & Amazon lists the rating as PG. Anyone know what the story is?

I know this is an old post, but like you, it seems the dvd movie isn't as it was released 27 years ago at the theatre. Unfortunately, with the tv-editing on a lower budget film such as this, we may never know just what was cut.

It would be nice if nearly every film that has been edited just prior to the theatrical release, or edited after having been viewed by film critics, or due to television editing....... if these edited scenes would end up on the dvds as "deleted scenes".

Unfortunately, in a large portion of films we never see what was "supposed to be".

Just saw this movie yesterday on the Sundance channel and it was terrific ! I posted my thoughts about Eric under the heading Eric Roberts !

NY Times review in release year states it's rated PG with a running time of 94 minutes. It was never rated R.
