A few observations and spoilers

Ok, first of all, seriously, the villain's name was Dr. Freudstein, like Sigmund Freud+ Albert Einstein? Man, this name is seriously screaming "I'm a mad scientist with German-Jewish roots"!!!!! :-)

Anyhow, just a few points that have been brought up already but whatever. I know Fulci films aren't supposed to make sense, but this one easily could have. It could have been The Others meets House on Haunted hill. But so many unresolved questions... The babysitter's mysteries. Her and Norman exchanging creepy stares. Norman coming town with a daughter(WTH?). The creepy little girl that only the kid could see. Almost none of these were necessary.

I liked the ending though. It's the only part that did make sense, but only after I had seen the Sixth Sense and the Others. The boy dies and gets transported into the spirit realm... What happens when someone finally kills Dr. Freudstein?(Like, with a bazooka or flames or a phaser in the 24th century, whatever)... Does he appear in the spirit realm as his human self, or zombie self? Or does he go straight to hell?

A fun ride, and( please don't murder me) could make a decent horror film today, with a good director.

I thought Freudstein was for Frankenstein.

I'm confused with your understanding of the film... You state:

The babysitter's mysteries. Her and Norman exchanging creepy stares. Norman coming town with a daughter(WTH?). The creepy little girl that only the kid could see. Almost none of these were necessary

but go on to say...
I liked the ending though. It's the only part that did make sense

Well, without the 'creepy little girl', the end wouldn't really make a whole lot of sense, would it? I can understand where your questions come from, but you seem positive they just don't make sense. That or you're only questioning out loud, and not trying to find an answer.

After watching this a few times, I feel the glances between Ann and Norman stem from a past relationship. He could have been cheating on Lucy. Which (sort of) explains why the realtor said he had been there before, with his daughter. I guess Ann was mistaken for his daughter when he came to town for a rendez-vous.

Mae Freudstein died a while back and is there to warn Bob. When her warnings become fruitless, she takes his innocent soul (after he's killed by the Doctor) to where her soul currently is.

We've met before, haven't we?

I thought that maybe they had something going too bc two dif people saw him and asked that, the weird glances, her ignoring the wife, and the beginning he makes a comment when they're packing the car about the other guy cheating on his wife but the comment was weird and seemed to be foreshadowing to me, which at the time I didn't think much but once people kept asking him about seeing him I thought oh now that makes sense,,,also he picks up that ring he found and I kept watchn to see if Ann is seen wearing it some point afterwards but never caught it if she is...anyone else know if she happens to have the ring he found? That would clinch it if so....seemed like they made a bug deal about it but never followed thru unless I missed the shot ?? Hope so would like some confirmation

I thought the ring was just an early reference to the girl that was killed in the first scene. If you notice it, the camera zooms in to show the ring with a white eliptical stone with a tinge of blood ? exactly the same ring found by the husband in the cellar. But it never ocurred to me he was planning to give it to the nanny (even though I was under the impression they had an affair as well).
