Joseph Zito directed one of my favorite Friday the 13th movies, Friday the 13th: The final Chapter. And because i liked that one that much i also became interested in The Prowler which is a fan favorite when it comes to 80's slashers.
The film begins with the return home of a wwII veteran who was the recipient of a "Dear John Letter". After swiftly dispatching a courting couple in a Gazebo we leap to present day where a college celebration becomes the hunting ground for a uniform clad killer.
Unfortunate enough i didn't really get into this film. I practically didn't feel any tension and the characters were incredibly and i mean incredibly boring. Could somebody please blow the dust off of those guys. I also missed the humoristic scene's which should fill up the film when it wasn't scarry. Appart from one funny scene with a lazy fat site supervisor there wasn't much going on on the funny side.
Of course there are some good things about this movie. One of them is the amazing work from Tom Savini who delivers a great piece of gore. Like always Savini manages to create very gory and realistic looking gore. Another great thing about the movie is the incredibly creepy killer. The combat uniform including bayonet is very cool and creepy at the same time. There is also a very cool scene which switches between some teens standing in front of the mirror fitting nice clothes for the prom night while in the next shot the killer stands in front of the mirror putting on his uniform to make a bodycount at the prom.
I'm glad it got a bit scarier and darker in the last 20 minutes. Because of that i'll give it 7 stars. If the last 20 minutes were of the same level i probably would have given it 6 stars.
7,0 Stars out of 10 :)
