This movie surprised me. I expected a rerun of "My Tutor" basically, but was very pleased with the creativity this film offered. Sylvia Kristel is very convincing as the "Private Tutor", and Patrick Piccininni was terriffic! Eric Brown gives a great performance as the "should I or shouldn't I" teenager with a tough (and enviable) decison to make. Howard Hesseman was perfect for his role as was Ron Foster as the free wheeling father who doesn't care how his kid graduates, just as long as he does! Good stuff here...
Yes, it does work surprisingly well. Probably one of the better "horny teen flicks," as they were crudely known. While I have seen it only on television, and much of it was edited out or edited down, it is suppose to be one of the more sexually graphic films out there. Especially in consideration of how old Eric Brown was, at the time he made it.
I actually saw this uncut on broadcast TV back in 1986; a lot of indepedent stations were running uncensored movies back then. I've since gotten my own copy of it, and always wondered how they got away with making this movie with an underage kid, and of course it's made me insanely jealous! :) Eric Brown was only in a couple other movies too, one of them "They're Playing With Fire" was essentially the same sort of movie where he plays a student seduced by a teacher. Lucky bastard! He was also on the show "Mama's Family" for a while though I never saw him on it. IMDB says he had a small part as a teacher in the recent "Outside Providence", I didn't recognize him there. Anyone know how he got into the Philly role, or what he's doing lately? If they did a remake of Private Lessons, who'd make a good Philly? I've been thinking Frankie Muniz, or Daniel Radcliffe (Harry Potter).
Or Daniel Radcliffe & me..........Hehe! But seriously when I first saw this movie when I was 14 (on tv) it was the HOTTEST topic of conversation at school the next day (especially amongst the boys). Our Principle Mr Heath called a "special assembly" & said "There was a very dirty, sinfull & demoralizing movie on tv last night (I guess he watched it too) & ANYONE caught talking about it will get a phone call to their parents!" .Needless to say he made it sound sooooooooooooo tabu that those who'd missed it were trying to locate it at our local BlockBuster that evening.
Yep, Just one year younger then Phillip Fillmore when he did this movie, but then again I'm a few years yonger then the charactor Sylvia Kristels played. So I guess it just wouldnt work
Maybe Nicole Kidman & that little boy she was cavorting with in the bath tub in (the movie) "Birth" would be perfect.
I love how absofriggenlutley hillarious the last 20 or 30 minutes of the movie is. Just when it looked like it was going to get melodramatic "Oh noes, I killed her! Help me!" it kicks into funny mode, with just about everyone in the movie screwing with the chauffer, even the tennis instructor! Also, the ending with Philly asking his high school teacher out to dinner was classic. Who played her, anyhow?
