Finally released in Germany... on DVD

Despite Possession having been filmed in Berlin and co-produced through a German production company, it has never been released in Germany in any form... until now.

Just in time for the anniversary of the fall of the Berlin Wall, the relatively new specialty label Bildstörung released the film on November 6, 2009.

It's uncut (119 min., PAL) in English with German subtitles.

The extras listed on Bildstörung's German-language-only website are:

-Audio commentary with director Andrzej Zulawski und film journalist Daniel Bird (previously featured on the Anchor Bay edition)

-The making-of documentary The Other Side of the Wall, with interviews with director Andrzej Zulawski, producer Marie-Laure Reyre, co-screenwriter Frederic Tuten and cameraman Andrzej Jaroszewicz (50 Min.)

-Picture gallery

- 48-page booklet with texts (presumably all in German) by Daniel Bird, Marcus Stiglegger, Jörg Buttgereit und director Andrzej Zulawski

No trailers are listed, which probably means they aren't included on the disc, but Bildstörung's website features the film's international trailer, which was available on the Anchor Bay releases.

Obviously, I don't actually own the disc yet, but I will acquire it soon.

I'll add any important further details on here later.

In the meantime, you could probably get any additional info you need by e-mailing [email protected]

O.K., I bought the disc.

At 23 euros, it's fairly expensive, but well worth having.

The documentary is great. It provides heretofore unpublicized insight into the film and has the option of watching it with English or German subtitles -- producer Marie-Laure Reyre and cameraman Andrzej Jaroszewicz respectively speak French and Polish during their interviews.

The 48-page booklet is all only German, but features some rare stills and behind-the-scenes photos, including Sam Neill, Isabelle Adjani, Heinz Bennent and Andrzej Zulawski laughing it up at Cannes.

The German subtitles on the movie itself are removable, and the disc includes the film's international trailer, which is essentially the same as the one on the Anchor Bay releases, but with French titles ("Coming Soon," etc.) and German subtitles.
