Second Sight U.K. DVD Release

Possession is finally coming out on DVD on the 25th October. On Amazon its running time is listed as 118 minutes. However, according to this site the longest running time is listed as 127 minutes and the 118 minutes is listed as a 'director's cut'. Can someone please tell me if 118 is in fact Zulawski's preferred cut, or is the upcoming DVD still going to be censored?

Thanks

I really hope its uncut! I can't see why they would censor it though, I mean, have you seen Martyrs?

Signature now deleted.

According to a nice long review in this month's Sight and Sound, the film is completely uncut, and indeed has never been cut by the BFI (hassles from the video nasty idiots are a completely different matter, however). As far as I know, it is the full-length film, and I am very much looking forward to getting my hands on a copy- I've wanted to see it for a long, long time.

Uncut DVD, with a rather staid 50-minute doc that somehow manages to not be very informative.

I disagree with the above poster completely. The documentary is VERY informative about many aspects of the production, including the genesis of the script, Zulawski's attempts at getting funding, the origins of certain characters, the setting, the special effects, and the film's reception. If that isn't informative, then colour me ignorant.

Really? All the stuff about attempting to set the film up at Paramount with Sam Waterston and Judy Davis wasn't interesting to you? Or establishing the political backdrop of Poland in the late 1970s, the creation of the monster effects and the direction of the "tunnel sequence", etc? Not even the stuff about the character of 'Abe', who was cut and subsequently written-out of the film after only one day of shooting with the actor Bernhard Wicki?

For me, the documentary was full of trivia and background information that I've never seen discussed before, and I quite enjoyed it.
