Similar movies (besides the Brood)?

I have an unhealthy obsession with this film. Can anybody recommend other movies I might enjoy? I already have the Brood and I love Cronenberg, Lynch, etc.

Jess Franco's SUCCUBUS (1968). Makes a nice companion piece to POSSESSION. It's also about a "possessed" woman, it doesn't make a whole lotta sense if you take the plot at face value and it was also filmed in Berlin!

How about Zulawski's entire body of work.

Szamanka
The Third Part of the Night
La Femme Publique
Diabel
etc.

All these films are insane.

The Antichrist

The antichrist was such a let down.

Von triers was sad that people laughed when the fox says "chaos reigns". How could they not laugh you mentally defunct bastard?

reply

Not only the brood, but I can see more Cronenberg movies in this one, not directly, but the Cronenberg vibe is definitely there. So most Cronenberg titles are advised.

Jacob's Ladder

Jacob's Ladder, oh yeah!!

Also - ARREBATO. That film also is pretty close to VIDEODROME.

I would certainly suggest Inland Empire, and other Lynch films.

There's a film called The Church by Michele Soavi which has a similar copulation scene - in this case with the Devil. In which case, I would say Rosemary's Baby is also relevant, and it has the same sense of derangement at times in the female lead

Possession also reminded me of a lot of Dario Argento's work, and I certainly agree that Hellraiser and several of Cronenberg's films would be worth watching

It's just 'Antichrist' not 'The Antichrist'

All those moments will be lost in time... like tears in rain - Rutger Hauer

Naked Lunch.

reply

Holy *beep* naked lunch!! that is a trip and a half!
I found the film hilarious, but it is of a sinister nature... but then again I found possession to be even more hilarious from scene to scene.
Anyway, Cronenberg is the master, so this conversation is over

For the suspense side of things and Isabelle Adjani, Roman Polanski's The Tenant is an ace movie.

reply

The above is an excellent reccommendation. If you enjoy dark / macabre and hysterical cinema, The Tenant is a superb choice. Isabelle Adjani also features as a pivotal (if somewhat mysterious) role in the film.

reply

Oh before I read your comment I thought he was making fun of David Lynch haha Naked Lunch-David Lynch
