Years later...seeing talent.

TMC just showed this again, the last time I saw it was in the 80s on the Los Angeles "Z" Channel. Goodness, how I miss that channel and TMC made me feel really nostalgic for it.

Anyway, I hated the movie way back then... with the exception of four wonderfully staged musical numbers:

The Accordion Playing bum dancing to Pennies from Heaven.
Bernadette Peters with her class (really nice!).
Steve Martin and his salesman pals dancing to It's the Girl.
Christopher Walken dancing to Let Misbehave (this was a showstopper for me).

Steve Martin was a bit comicy in the non signing and dancing scenes and that ruined it for me, it was like he was trying not to do stand up but doing stand up facial expressions he is famous for. The Black Cat Scene near the end solidified that. Even after all these years I still wish someone else played the salesman, but I like Steve as he did have a moment here and there as long as it was singing and dancing. Lots of talent to watch in this production, and that was the beauty of seeing this film all these years later.

The three words that best describe you...and I quote: stink, stank, stunk!

The accordian player dancing to "Pennies from Heaven" is my favorite scene of the movie. He is mesmerizing in his performance!
