Nighthawks/Collater al endings

SPOILERS for all you babies





For anyone who has seen Collateral, have you noticed how similar the endings are to both films?

Both Deke DaSilva (Stallone in Nighthawks) and Jamie Foxx (Max in Collateral) find secret information detailing their love interest is the next target for the villains in each respective film (Rutger Hauer & Tom Cruise). Jamie Foxx's character in Collateral finds out that Jada Pinkett was Vincent's next hit because of the information on Vincent's computer after Foxx deliberately crashes the cab. After the crash Vincent (Cruise) escapes and goes about his business much like Wulfgar (Hauer) continues stalking after he escapes the bus crash in the river. After the bus crash in Nighthawks, DaSilva goes to Wulfgar's secret hideout which had just been recently found, and finds his girlfriend's address among Wulfgar's secret papers. After finding this out, it was just a matter of Max and Deke getting to their love interests before the killer does.

I thought the overall premise of the climaxes in these films were similar, although Collateral's ending contains a fairly long chase scene. With Nighthawks it was simply Deke dressing up as his girlfriend before Wulfgar reached her apartment and then turning his gun on Wulfgar just as Wulfgar's about to strike.

I have to add that both of these films are my favorite in the action/suspense genre. Seven & 8MM are right behind them.
