Dammit! Where is the ****ing missing footage????

Makes no sense that a movie of this recent vintage (1981 isn't the nineteen TWENTIES for God's sakes!!!) has footage missing that would turn a pretty good cop thriller into a classic for the ages.

Where.

Is the missing.

Footage.

The Terror In The Aisles myth pretty much started as a result of the one segment where the finale of Nighthawks was intercut with footage from another film, Vice Squad.

That led some people into thinking the Nighthawks finale footage shown in Terror In The Aisles was uncut.

It wouldn't be as bad if they just sorted out that damn ending! I can normally spot dodgy edits but even my wife noticed something was off with the final scene.

It would be really simple to fix too, like they did with Cliffhanger (when Travers gets shot). Just thrown some quick edits of gun shots into the footage and one more to show him being shot out the front door rather than having him miraculously stumble out like a drunk magician.

That would be my suggestion, but I'd kill to see the original uncut version (never gonna happen, unless someone on AICN.com does a petition for Sly).

If they released the Richard Donner cut of 'Superman II' then anything is possible. i believe make up legend Dick Smith worked on this and that several of his effects were cut by the censor.

When I saw NIGHTHAWKS at a New Jersey theater back in 1981 I swear I saw all six bullet hits. I don't remember Peckinpah-style exit wounds with tons of gore and gristle, but Hauer got hit half a dozen times in slow motion before tumbling through that door to the front stoop.

Roeg I hope you or someone else can investigate this a little more thoroughly, because I know I'm not imagining things. I can't speak for all the other edits that were made prior to the movie's release in 1981, but I vividly remember Stallone's gun discharging six times and six squibs erupting out of Hauer's body.

I agree. When I watched this movie, I started thinking that I was watching the Reader's Digest version of the movie. Stuff happened that made no sense because it was obvious other stuff was left out. The part where the bad guy got to know who the Stallone character was and that he was his potential nemesis, was left out.
