Film's listed budget is WRONG

It is incorrectly listed on here as 5 million dollars, which is not remotely true. I distinctly remember a TV special from around the time of this film's release that reported Stallone's salary alone as being 5 million dollars -- an astronomical sum for an actor in 1981.

Which means the movie's entire budget had to be much, much higher than that. (My guess? In the 15 to 20 million dollar range).

Considering the rabid following this movie seems to have, I'm surprised nobody ever caught this mistake before (and yes, it really is a mistake).

Actually the 'above the line' budget total was $4,353,300 so the listing on IMDB, while not totally accurate, is around the $4-5 million range.

How i know this specific budget information, you may ask?

I obtained the original production budget ledger from eBay several years ago, under the originally planned film title, Hawks.

Above-the-line is a term that refers to the list of individuals who guide, influence and hopefully add to the creative direction, process and voice of a given narrative in a film and their related expenditures. These roles include but are not limited to the screenwriter(s), producer, director, casting director and actors.

The 'below the line' budget was $4,880,000.

The 'below the line' budget refers to other crew members, which are listed here.

There was also a 25% 'indirect cost' added to the budget. Combined total budget cost was $11,541,625. How IMDB obtains the budget details for films is unknown to me. We also don't know if IMDB are basing the budget on above or below the line budget information or both combined.

As for Stallone's salary for the film, he was paid $2,000,000 for acting in the film. He was not given any profits from the box office, as there is no mention of it in the budget ledger. He also was paid $15,000 for co-writing the film.

Stallone didn't hit $4-5 million dollar movie salaries until after First Blood in 1982.

Damn. I could've sworn my 5 million dollar salary figure was accurate. My bad.

Regardless, even if the combined total budget on the movie was 11.5 million, that is still significantly higher than the "official" budget we have seen listed on these boards.
