German Blu Ray—Uncut???

Does anyone know if the German blu ray released in February this year is an uncut version, or the US R' rated cut with only 2 shots to Wulfgar at the end?

reply

I haven't seen it myself, but by all accounts it's just an upscaled version of the 2004 universal dvd (and a very poorly done one at that)

Same cuts, same semi-butchered soundtrack. I was really hoping it would've at least had the original music, but apparently not.

I kinda doubt we'll ever see the uncut version, but if/when the movie comes to blu ray in the states, there's a pretty good chance of it at least having the unedited soundtrack. (I hope anyway!)

Thanks for your responses—you have saved me some $$$. It is unfortunate that censorship and copyright issues regarding the soundtrack have reared it's ugly head—this is quite possibly Stallone's best film. It has consequently marred the viewing experience and enjoyment of many fans and even casual film viewers who may well be blown away (pardon the pun), should they ever get an opportunity to view this fine action thriller the way it was intended.

You're absolutely right. This is Stallone's best film. I would put this as number 1 on list of my favorite Stallone movies, right up there with ROCKY and FIRST BLOOD. Even though i always wanted to see more faithfull movie adaptation of original David Morrell's story.

I myself haven't got a chance to see German Blu Ray of NIGHTHAWKS,but i have seen Blu Ray of TERROR IN THE AISLES,documentary about thriller movies which has parts of Nighthawks in it. I send some pictures of this documentary to other Nighthawks fan to be posted at some Stallone fan page, just so everyone could see sharp clear image which possible Nighthawks Blu Ray edition could have.

Just like everyone else,i hope that one day we gonna get uncut Nighthawks in its full glory. What i really want to see,and i'm pretty sure what everyone else would like to see,is uncut ending with all that Dick Smith-made gore effects.

Interesting,Dick Smith made gore effects for SCANNERS,just about the same time when he made special effects for Nighthawks. Just by looking at final scanner duel,i can imagine how gruesome Wulfgar would have looked like when Deke fires final headshot in him

Just like Nighthawks,Scanners originally had extended ending with Cameron's head bursting in flames, and while we can find pictures from this ending anywhere on web, only possible picture from uncut ending of Nighthawks is on some German posters for the movie.

Speaking of the soundtrack, was "Brown Sugar" always playing in the club before the train chase? I'm watching it on Netflix and I remember thinking in the sat how bad the music was in that scene from my old VHS so it was a surprise.

reply

Yes, the original theatrical release had the song 'Brown Sugar'. Due to music licence issues, a majority of the home video releases contains an alternate song. Some network TV airings, as well as the Goodtimes Home Video DVD contains the original song.
