Anybody think they should do it right?

Oh, hell yes!

I haven't seen this movie, but I just found out that it makes no attempt to follow the plot of the original song as recorded by Vicki Lawrence. It sure sounds to me like the original version of the tale would make a much more interesting movie than what I've been able to figure out of the plot of this one.

"I don't deduce, I observe."

It certainly would have made a much more interesting movie. I was very puzzled why a movie named after a song that tells a story would tell a much different story.

Many of those types of songs ("Ode to Billy Joe," "Harper Valley PTA," "The Gambler") were turned into movies in the '70s and '80s, with mixed results, but at least the movie had something to do with the song.

On a related note, why hasn't "MacArthur Park" been turned into a movie? It could be horrible, or it could be excellent if someone like David Lynch directed it. OK, maybe this isn't the best idea.

While I DO like this movie, I think you are right.
