Does anyone remember the two lead actors protesting the movie?

I remember watching Christopher and Lynda Day George on the TV show Hour Magazine with Gary Collins. They were angrily protesting the film. They said they had been tricked into filming this gory slasher film. They said they had been told by the producers it was a murder mystery and that the gore scenes were filmed and edited into the picture without their knowledge. There was conjecture about a lawsuit from them to halt the film's release because it would hurt their acting careers. I remember them also taking offense at the content because of their Christian background. Anybody else remember this brouhaha?

I find that very difficult to believe, given the fact that they were both in other "gore" films around this same time.

Christopher George was in:

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0082467/

Both Christopher AND Lynda Day George were in:

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0087746/

If they had no objection to being in any of the above, I can't imagine that they'd have a problem with Pieces.

Christopher George is in the scene where the body of the girl killed by the swimming pool is found.

There's blood everywhere, severed head and limbs, and a blood drenched chainsaw.

And all throughout the movie both of them are in scenes featuring dialogue about chopped up bodies, etc..

The idea that they "didn't know" what kind of film they were in is ridiculous.

Thanks, and have a great day.

I agree with you grandsammer, it's obvious neither were opposed to this kind of film.

Hey, this guy's not gonna leak all over my ice cream, is he?

I find it doubtful they would protest the gore scenes of this movie. Christopher George was in Lucio Fulci's City of the Living Dead which is still talked about today for its famous gore scenes.

Christopher George was in all kinds of slasher films. I think he was aware of the content of Graduation Day, Mortuary, Gates Of Hell, Grizzly, Day Of The Animals, The Exterminator and Pieces. He is even in the final scene with a gruesome discovery. So I do not think there is any truth to that rumour.

The two probably would've noticed in the script.

Plus, Christopher George actually DIED before the film was released in the US!

That's absolutely true, scholar. He died of a heart attack before the film was even released. And as far as "Christian background" is concerned. He posed for PLAYGIRL! I have the pics to prove it. LMAO!

BASTARD!!!

Are you pissed because I *beep* her, Cris? Or beacsue I beat you to the punch?

reply

I thought Christopher George posing for Playgirl had to be a joke, until I Googled it. Kinda sorta wish I hadn't!!!

reply

Sounds like something their publicists concocted to generate publicity for the film.

On the DVD commentary that was released for "The Day of the Animals", which Christopher and Lynda Day George starred in, Scott Spiegel and Eli Roth ask Lynda Day George about "Pieces", since both Scott and Eli are fans of the film. Lynda said that there was no real shooting script and as far as she was concerned, she was told it was just a 'murder mystery' film and found out that it was a gory horror film only after the fact. But she said that both she and Christopher had signed onto doing the film because Christopher owed someone a favor, if I'm not mistaken. So I'd say its far to say that both assumptions are correct. They both more than likely knew it was a horror film (though poorly executed, if Lynda stated that there was no real shooting script) and since they both had done other horror film around the same time ("Mortuary"), but they were probably not entirely aware that it was going to be a very gruesome horror film. After all, "Pieces" was generally regarded as an exploitation film that probably never made it passed the grindhouse theatrical release and most of FVI's movies were not given huge nation-wide releases, and "Pieces" also restricted anyone under the age of 17 into admittance. So any legal action or protest of the film was likely short-lived.

I'll have you eviscerated for this!

Lynda gave an interview where she claimed doing those kind of films is what gave Christopher the heart attack. She didn't single out PIECES, but I believe she referred to all the low-budget horror films Chris did at the time.

Linda Day George said that Christopher hated this film and how this type of film was all he was being offered toward the end of his career. I don't think they ever protested it but I do know he didn't like the film.
