Which Actor Would Make A Great Lone Ranger?

Can anybody think of a major hollywood actor out there right now that they think would make for a awesome Lone Ranger?

P.S. Why isn't this out on DVD?

Had they done a new film in the early 90's like originally planned, I would have liked to have seen it with Mel Gibson as the Ranger and Lou Diamond Phillips as Tonto. I once had a dream where these actors were the masked man and his companian, and the idea has stuck with me ever since.

Jim Caviezel would make an awesome Lone Ranger. He has everything for the role...handsome looks, strength, intelligence, wit and equestrian ability(just watch Count of Monte Cristo)!

As I said in another thread, Joaquin Phoenix might be good. He's got the looks and the presence.

Wouldn't complain about Jim Caviezel or Matthew McConnaughey (except that Matthew would have to darken his hair).

Jim Caviezel has already got the role if the movie will ever get the green light ...and I agree that he is the perfect choice. ...but the big story at the rumor mill is the Mario Kassar wants a big named superstar like John Travolta, Mel Gibson or Harrison Ford to star as the lead villian(possibly as Butch Cavendish or a new villian).

Mario Kassar doesn't believe that any of the major studios will green light the movie if Jim Caviezel is the main star of the show, so he wants to recruit a major (older-aging-but not too old)superstar to star as the movies villain. He thinks that is a better way to sell the movie to the studio heads & executives.

Lets hope they can pick an older star for the villain...I would love to see Mel Gibson teamed with Jim Caviezel just once! But, any other villain would do if Jim would be make the Lone Ranger!
