Werewolf changing at will

Usually it's the full moon or any moon but these werewolves can change anytime they want day and night.

In the book they change only at night.

And in the book the werewolves are four legged like American Werewolf.

Yes, I don't think there really are any set rules for werewolves just as there aren't for vampires. Seems like the rules are different in each movie or book. I figure the authors just do whatever they want.

But people sort of treat it like there are set rules when there isn't, Universal Horror set the standard of rules like werewolf being killed by a silver bullet, transforming only when there's a full moon, vampires can only be defeated by anything christian and a wooden stake through the heart.

I agree. They're pretty much traditions instead of rules. 

Like other people have said, it changes depending on the film/book. Everyone has their own rules for the Werewolf myth and the same can even be applied to Vampires and other supernatural creatures. And that's totally fine. In fact, it's great because it allows for more development for that particularly creature. For example, The American Werewolf in London changed every full moon, The Howling werewolves could change at will and the werewolf in Bad Moon changed every night. I think it's great to add variety to the legend so that we aren't seeing the same interpretation every time.
