Are the sequals worth a look?

I liked this film, but apperently the next sequals are rubbish?

The only sequel that can be considered fair to good is Howling 5: The Rebirth. I actually really like that film. It is more of a mystery movie than a werewolf one and it works as a stand alone film.

The others, unfortunately, are crap. Ranging from amusing crap:

Howling 4: The Original Nightmare
Howling VI: The Freaks
and maybe... just maybe you can throw in Howling III: The Maruspials in here

... to abysmal-never-to-be-watched-OR-watch-at-your-own-peril crap:

Howling 2:Your Sister is a Werewolf
Howling 7: New Moon Rising.

Yeah, I agree about The Rebirth. I also think it's probably my favorite of the sequels simply due to the fact that it is a murder mystery in a castle with a werewolf...and the atmosphere was good considering it had a lower budget.

The past few days, I've been (re-)watching the first seven Howling movies, I've only got part 6 and 7 to go. The first is the most elegant and impressive specimen, even some genuine scares here. But once is never enough! All the sequals are campy and wonderfully bad, I'm SO glad they made this into a 'franchise'. Some are more serious in tone than others but they all somewhat fail as well made movies (happily) and they're all (often unintentionally) funny. They do have a lot going for them though.

Christopher Lee is in part 2. This also has some very horny werewolves and a steamy menage a trois. And plenty of action, pretty women and a righteous dude, after he almost kills Mr Lee who guards his dead(?) werewolf(?) sister's (open) coffin from an old guy and a vixen. Travel, a midget, evil, weird foreigners and a crack squad of werewolf hunters keep the blood pumping.

For part 3 we travel to Australia, which enormously helps in the "strong accents" department. Too bad Crocodile Dundee doesn't have a cameo but there's a kangaroo reference you won't forget (pouch!) and some very touching romances. Also a Russian woman who has a very expressive face and can have normal conversations while under hypnosis. The main werewolf-girl character becomes a succesful actress and doesn't age a day in 15 years. Which must be helpful for her career. Nice homage to the original film's ending as well. Just wonderful, alraait maet?

A bit more serious: the fourth part has George Michael in a leading roll. This is mostly a (not very) creepy "small town where the folks have a secret" kind of affair. Also two hunks (G.M. and Tom) have some very macho fights over the girl who is the main focus. There's a creepy nun and a sexy (suggestedly lesbian) sleuth nun with an occasionally uncanny sense of timing and she bonds really well with our leadgirl. Who you will notice makes "friends" real easily. Something invisible is after her friends though! Not too much action for the first hour or so, apart from lots of bitchin' anda bickerin' But in the final half hour... boy... George Michael gets bitten and he gets so turned on, he literally melts. That was awesome!

Part 5 takes place in a cool castle in Romania. Sort of a whodunnit / slasher. With a poignant prelude, before we move 500 years into the future of 1988. This one has more action on the whole than part 4 and is once again, fairly serious in tone. Michael Bolton is in this one. Can you guess the bad wolf?

Ah... I'm gonna watch parts 6 and 7 now, they're gonna be awesome as well! I just know it.
