6.6(Howling) and 5.8(The Wolfman)? Misleading

I saw The Howling coz 6.6 is a good rating for a horror flick. It was so disappointing that I deleted the movie immediately after watching. I avoided a film called The Wolfaman, starring Benecio Del Toro and Anthony Hopkins as the rating in IMDB is 5.8. Somehow i downloaded the movie as the movie have quality actors.I loved the movie. Infact it is not one of the best but THE BEST warewolf movie of all time. I also loved An American Warewolf in London. But 6.6 for Howling. I simply dont get it.

I didn't care for this movie that much though only cause I read the book just before it and they changed it too much from the book. I will say though the werewolves do look amazing and so does Elizabeth Brook's naked body. Also The wolfman does deserve around a 6 because I think it's way too silly. I mean just take this scene.

When I saw this 5 years ago with my friend he turned to me at this part and said, "This isn't going to go over well." Plus where the Doctor bangs on the door and the guy at the other side says, "It seems to be locked sir." That is like something you'd see in one of the Scary Movie movies.

I have to say, after watching The Howling again recently for the first time in a long time, I was definitely underwhelmed. But, If you haven't already checked it out, The Howling IV: The Original Nightmare is much closer to the book. And, while there's still a place in my heart for The Howling, looking back, I think I might prefer part IV...though Either one is more watchable the The Wolfman re-make.

Not you. The original poster said he was so disappointed that he "deleted the movie immediately after watching," which I think is a silly thing to even utter.

May I make a friendly suggestion? Turn on Nest mode! It's one of the view choices above (just below The Howling (1981)): thread, flat, inline, nest -- it let's you see rather clearly which post someone has replied to, because replies are stacked to the side (and a reply to a reply is pushed slightly further to the right)! It helps tremendously with keeping track of conversations here.

the howling is the best of the low budget werewolf movies. It has its flaws, but you have to put it in perspective of when it was made, 1981. The special effects of the transformation were cutting edge (and rick baker used this film as the testbed for american werewolf in london) I do admit, the movie does not hold up very well. AWIL and Wolfman are definitely the two best out there. You might try Ginger Snaps as well that one was clever. So was blood moon/wolfgirl (a werewolf movie in reverse)

I wasn't sure if you realized it jleslie but the TC was talking about the remake of the wolfman with Benicio Del Torro. The original one gets a higher rating. The remake is very silly and I really don't get how anyone could think it is one of the best of the genre.

yes greengoblin, I realize we are talking about the wolfman2010. I happen to really like the wolfman(2010) Just the right blend of updating the story and homage to the predecessors. the story moved along nicely although I will concede Benicio Del Torro was weak in the role (when he was a whiny human.) Wolfman 2010 is quite watchable, whereas I find myself hitting the fast forward button way to much with the howling 1981. Quite honestly, even the famous transformation scene once you get past the technical genius of how it was shot, is a ridiculous scene. the girl is just sitting there for almost 3 minutes watching instead of getting the hell out of there. Its a bit silly.

Wow! Really? For me, An American Werewolf in London would have to be the best, hands down. I always thought werewolf movies are a lot like zombie movies in the sense that, there are a hundred terrible ones and only a handful of really good ones, though special fx are a major "make or break" for werewolf movies in particular.

Haven't seen the Wolfman (2010) but I'm almost certain it pales in comparison to the Howling.

Youd be correct. :) Howling is low budget classic for a reason. It may be a bit corny these days, but its still a pure treat to horror lovers like me.
