What happened to Christopher Stone aka Bill Neil at the end (SPOILERS)

I've seen this movie many times, I love the way they did the werewolves, they had that kind of funny scarry quality that clowns have, you laugh a little bit about the big ears but the face scares the bejesus out of you. Anyone comparing this to CGI might as well compare a rotary dial telephone from 1980 to an Iphone from 2016.

Anyway; SPOILERS:
WTF what the hell happened to Christopher Stone aka Bill Neil in the film at the end of the movie? Did he quit? Was he fired? He isn't in the climax at the barn (someone mentions he's not there yet), and it's not him in the car after he's shot, it's a body double (they don't show his face).

I can't find an answer online, not on the IMDB boards, not in Wikipedia.

Anyone know?
