The ever-absent police in Linda Blairs movies (Spoilers of course)
I really like it that this film differs from other “haunted house” horror movies in that one guy, Seth, was able to climb over the gate to escape while the killers were still inside. But what followed was totally nonsensical! How could the police have ignored him when he went to the police station and reported that several people had been murdered? He didn't appear that drunk, and even if the police didn’t really believe him because the students made a lot of trouble that night, it was clearly their duty to go to investigate. Instead they threatened to lock him up if he didn’t shut up. It got even more ridiculous later on. Seth stole a gun from the police station! So wouldn’t they have noticed and gone after him? Also, wouldn’t the driver who was forced off his car have reported it to the police and they would have found it crashed against the front gate of the mansion? No, the police was nowhere to be seen even in the next morning, when Linda Blair walked away from the mansion with the evil guy crushed between the car and the front gate!
This was not the first time we find the police totally useless in Linda’s movies. In Exorcist II: The Heretic, a swarm of locusts (or evil forces) destroyed a whole house to the ground, and police cars came only after that happened. In Savage Streets, Linda disposed of three bad guys, spraying the last one with flammable paint and torching him. He ran out to the street screaming with Linda standing at the door in full view of the police. Yet apparently they didn’t do anything, since in the next scene Linda was perfectly okay and seen with her sister and friends.
