He goes back in the house several times knowing there is a killer loose and has no reason to go inside. He makes no attempt in finding a way off the property even though it took Seth 1 minute to get through the fence. And he has a fascination about going after the killer in the most dangerous places with a weak weapon while dragging his girlfriend along.

I totally agree, that guy was pissing me off!! I was actually glad to see him died, I just wish it would have happened sooner!!

It shows that Jeff was noble & brave and not a spoiled rich coward. Seth was slim & athletic and it wasn't easy for him to get over the gate; Jeff was more of a wealthy intellectual pretty boy type. When he goes after the killer who escaped through the trap door, Jeff had a weapon and the killer was wounded & bleeding. Makes sense to go finish him off. And Marti insisted on tagging along because she understandably didn't want to be alone in the room.
