Charles Cyphers' small role?

I always found this odd giving he's top billing in the opening but he disappears after the first act and never seen again. He's not even shown at the end when Laurie is being taken to another hospital. I expected him to meet up with Hunt and get the update on things, but nothing.

Why was Charles' role so diminished here? It's like they started filming and then part-way though Charles had some other commitment, so the plot was reworked to have Hunt be the main one working with Loomis and that just stuck throughout the rest of the movie. Charles did not need top billing at all.

I've never seen a specific reason for it, so I assume it just has to be the writing. My guess is that, given the movie, and the brevity of his screen time, he probably wasn't paid a lot, so they sweetened the pot with the billing. But I agree, I always had expected him to pop up again too. But he said he was going home to tell his wife before someone else did. Guess she needed him home the rest of the night.
