Where the hell are Laurie's parents??

Ok, I know I should just watch the movie and enjoy it for what It is but after seeing H2 many times over the years, I seem to be thinking about this....as I get older, all I can think is...ok, this is a smallish town, hours have passed, what happened is all over the news, and Laurie's parents are STILL not there with her at the hospital?!?! It must be one hell of a party they're at!

reply

The nurses talk about not being able to get ahold of the parents. One mentions that the doctor had said that they were at the same party as him earlier, but were now no longer there. Made it sound kind of ominous, but I may be reading more into it than there was.

reply

No excuse for them not being at the Hospital being a small town they would of heard the news pretty fast.

reply

Many reasons. First, they could've been even more drunk than Mixter, which is saying a lot, didn't want to drive and stopped at a hotel to sleep it off. In which case, they wouldn't have heard the news til the next morning.

Second, they *did* hear the news knowing a serial killer was still on the loose, the brother of Laurie, their adopted daughter, and didn't want to be in danger from him or didn't want to have to do that explaining. People can be selfish.

In reality, had the parents actually been there, they would've likely been added to the body count as the endgame was always Michael, Laurie, Loomis and Marion on the outside. Second, they probably didn't want to cast the parents with cameo yet speaking roles. We saw the Dad in the original and Mom in flashbacks. Would we get the same Dad and an older different mother? For what? So they were conveniently moved off the playing field, but at least mentioned so they wouldn't be completely forgotten.

Probably drunk and swinging with the Doyles and the Wallaces in Russellville

Gymkata4u----I actually had that thought too! Being the 70's and all. They were probably at one of those "key" parties! Haha!

reply

Lol. Definitely Key party

reply

The Strodes were with Alice's parents at her Aunt Ruby's house in Russellville, along with Eddie Lee. :)

reply

Lol there you go

The Halloween series seems to just be a metaphor for crappy parenting. Those Strides though... first, they abandon Laurie the whole night then they don't even take in her daughter after she dies.

I don't think it's a plothole at all, Obo. Dave gave perfectly good explanations.

I disagreed with Dave's explanation on that. However, his explanations of why Laurie's parents couldn't be reached is perfectly plausible.

As far as his perfectly plausible explanations about her parents, Barn, I was thinking more of the sleeping the drunkenness off at the party house or hotel, and not hearing about it until the next day. Sounds plausible to me.

I would blame the screenwriter for all that "step" nonsense before I held the actors and script supervisor responsible.

reply

It wouldn't be hard to believe that the Strodes may have went somewhere else after the party.

reply

Of course not.

I don't see it at all as a plot hole. In the 1970s, answering machines were pretty rare. So if the Strodes got home after the hospital's phone lines were cut, they probably had no clue their daughter was in the hospital. Perhaps they stumbled drunkenly upstairs and into bed after getting home. It's not like the police were knocking on their door every 5 minutes either.

reply

Agreed, Gambit.

They couldn't be located, I guess.

The house surrounded with crime scene tape and news reporters?

reply

Yeah. Where an attempted murder just had happened.

reply

The murders and the attempt murder took place at the Wallace / Doyle's home, not the Strodes. They were at the same party as Dr. Mixter, but if IIRC nurse Janet said "they aren't there (the party) now or at home." Sounded ominous as if something happened to them, but not sure that was what they were going for. The stopped off somewhere and then went home? There were no cell phones, social media, or really that many answering machines back then. Plausible they didn't find out until the next day.

reply

I honestly thought they just did not care. The fact that it was all over the news and they never showed up is a red flag. If you watch Halloween: The Curse Of Michael Myers we get to see the Strodes and the dad is a real douche.

reply

They probably had a crazy party that involved a metal box, they opened it and are now suffering for all eternity
