I know that Roger cut about 7 minutes from Alan Holzmann's MUTANT (in addition to re-naming it FORBIDDEN WORLD, apparently to confuse people into thinking it had something to do with FORBIDDEN PLANET) and did it entirely without Alan's permission or blessing, chopping the length down to 78 minutes for the version that survives today.
GALAXY OF TERROR has almost the same exact runtime: Did Roger remove more than just the well known cuts to the maggot sequence? I was just watching it again and it just strikes me as odd that both movies come in at less than 80 minutes and basically have no slow spots. I've seen Alan's 85 minute cut of MUTANT and even that doesn't have any slow spots and from what he's shared with me about the production ordeal Roger just sort of cut the movie to be a dick after people were observed laughing & enjoying themselves at a pre-release test screening. The result was a subtly different movie and I am just curious as to whether GALAXY may also have had an embryonic state that may have been somewhat different than the version we know today.
I've seen that production staff have chimed in here on some of these issues in the past and am hoping they could maybe shed some additional light, to paraphrase STARSHIP TROOPERS I'd like to know more.
For more info read my posts on the "worm rape question" thread. And I have a question for you: Didn't you use to run the old GOT.com website? Also if want more info after reading that thread I will be glad to supply it. I just don't know in how much detail you can go into on IMDB on a subject like this.
Roger's track record is kind of funny sometimes. I read various things about the whole FW thing. I heard something that he actually starting fighting with and throwing things at the people laughing at the screening. i read in Fango a few months back about what he did to Humanoids from the Deep. He actually went and shot the rape scenes and added them in without the director's knowledge and permission. She found out at the premiere screening as did Ann Turkel too and they were pissed.
That's cool you got to see the uncut version. Was there anything worthwile mentioning,Squonkamatic? I read something in a book about footage cut from movies onethime. It said Forbidden World had some cuts due to graphic violenece and a grisly rape scene of a female explorer by the main monster. It almost sounded like maybe they confused it with GOT. Or it could have been refering to the tentacle through the neck thing. Maybe you could shed some light on that.
In all I have heard about cuts to GOT were something in an evisceration scene (Jack Blessing's character?) and of course that little maggot rape scene. Felgrimdark's original post sounds very interesting and I would love to hear more as well. I think you get into a prett good amount of detail on here, I do see flame wars and f-words tossed around all the time.
Getting back to GOT. The scene had so many quick cuts and it was too damn short. It feels like it is missing something plus continituy seems off. One scene it lifts her to penetrate her, then next one you see the side leg shot while she is still moaning, the the breasts rubbing scene and it looks like she is being humped. the shots of her face show a tentacle around her neck but then in a few other scenes, theres nothing by her head. The continuity sort of picks up towards the end as the grabs the tentacles wrapping around her as she is raised up again then grabs the floor. But then her hand is clutching the maggots head, then her hand slips away and when it cuts to the final shot, shes grabbing it near the head again. The 2 things I know that have some difference are the old HK VCD and the 35mm red band trailer.
The HK VCD is probably the brightest version I seen yet. Its like they darkened it to hide the cheapness of the set. Some things I have noticed or other people who have seen it are it looks like a tentacle or something round between her legs in the first raise up scene besides the thong which we saw in NOTE. Also in the humping as her leg falls down scene, it looks like a patch of ripped white cloth covering her crotch area as it rubs against her. Someone also thought her leg on the other side is extended straight out while the one is bent against the side of the maggot. You also notice how cheap the maggot is as the hollow tentacles flatten under her.
The 35mm red band trailer I think has a different scene not used, perhaps one that felgrimdark mentioned he seen. In the side raising up scene, you don't see much of her ass, but if anyone remembers TMac a long time ago on his site had some pics from it up and you actually saw more thigh and her buttcheecks on the right side of the pic. The one large tentacle is on the ground in it and in the regular cut its above the ground. Plus you see her other arm extended up grabbing the worms head as her arm nearest to us grips the tentacle under her back. Do you still have that trailer or the pics from it ,TMac? I did pick up a little envelope of some clippings from the trailer from a place in Vegas and it did have some parts from the maggot scene. I was shocked at how much they used, its almost the whole scene! In the next few months getting a new pc and a scanner is in the budget. I will get a scanner with the 35mm kit and scan some of these in and post them if its possible. Like I've noticed in the breast rubbing scene you can actually see most of her face.
Before I sign off I do actually have 2 of the original shooting scripts from it. Grace Zabriske's and Jack Blessing's. The maggot scene is brief but almost has no sexual tone except her clothing being ripped open and hanging in tatters. The scene that was very sexual was Erin Moran's character's one. instead of being crushed in the tunnel, she is molested by alien hands and has her suit melted away by some fluid leaving her completely naked. Ironically enough, this scene is whited out in Grace's copy. LOL! One other difference I can think of off the top of my head, is the scene before the captain goes spelunking and gets killed. He stares at Dameia's chest and muses that they are "the grandest mammeries in the galaxy".
That would be cool if you could tell us about anything you saw, felgrimdark. Like any different angles, how much more explicit, body parts shown,etc... Like you mentioned in you other thread, like the prothsetic and such. And congrats on your retirement TMac. I saw that on your site a while back. Thanks for all the good years.

The texture of the film is completely different, with a somewhat more leisurely pace, some different musical scoring and an increased emphasis on dark humor -- but there are NO additional gore or sexualized scenes. According to Alan, Mr. Corman objected to the pre-release screening audience finding the movie funny and cut it to try and "make it into a horror film". So the book passage you refer to is probably confusing the project with GALAXY.
The one thing about the MUTANT cut that stood out the most for me was the voice of Sam the robot, which was more electronic and somewhat hard to discern. Alan told me that was originally supposed to be a reference to his own vocal inflections as he has a noticeable stutter.
One bit of news that I may have about a possible DVD release is that now both of the PAL releases by Stax in Britain and Alan Young Pictures in Italy have been abruptly discontinued. So was the Japanese made King Video DVD of HUMANOIDS FROM THE DEEP, which is a pattern I have noticed in the past when plans for domestic North American DVD releases have been finalized. I have not actually heard or read anything to confirm that a DVD is in the works but the pattern of discontinuation of overseas releases before a North American pressing is something I am familiar with.

The original footage was intentionally shot dark to hide the cheapness of the set and f/x. The footage reused for NOTE was contrasted and brightened as tolded to me by the director himself Jim Wynorski. Hopefully, the planned dvd release will finally get the proper treatment.
You guys know much of this discussion will probably be deleted by imdb right?
Nice to see TMac and everyone else is still up and at it. Hey TMac, I've set up a offshot of your old Taaffe Yahoo group called...
and moved most the materials over there... moderated and free of spammers! Though it's not a hentai group, it also so covers other crappy movies from that pre-cgi era. Head on over and check it out.
It's not the language but rather the discussion that was getting a little sexually explicit. While it may be tame to you or I,IMDB is really rigid about these things and will delete them without notice.
Glad you enjoy it. I created the group for those who were tired of the spamming in Taaffee's group to primary discuss GOT news and the impeding dvd release. I expanded coverage to include other movies, but Unfortunately all the talk has been only on GOT.:( As for the dvd, there are plans to include extras like commentary and bits. Don't know about deleted footage nor the release date yet. Keep checking fangoria.com dvd release schedule for it.
Looks like we'll have to be more careful then about what we say but I am curious to see what were the scenes that felgrimdark seen. I know the Lust Caution board has described things from that movie vividly and their posts are still there.
BTW this weekend Sid Haig & Robert Englund are in Chicago for the Fangoria Weekend of Horrors. I just found out hours ago.....
DVD? I asked contacts in the industry about it and they're not even sure. All I know is that there are plans or preparations for a DVD release with extras. Sig Haig was asked to contribute commentary and he said yes, but hasn't heard further from them yet and that was from late last year. For those who will be attending Fangoria's Weekend Of Horror in Chicago, it's the perfect opportunity to ask him in person about any new updates on the DVD.
Roger Corman's entire film library and all related material including any deleted scenes are stored at the UCLA Archives. Corman is notorious for being cheap and always kept tabs on every penny spented. So,you can be certain any deleted material shot would not have been destroyed if he can profit or use it for future use. Check how many times he reused the space battle footage from "Battle beyond the Stars" in his movies during much of the 80's and 90's. This man will never let anything go to waste.
As for the "Worm scene", you are correct that any deleted footage would probably comprise of edited pieces extending a few seconds at most. Unedited would probably number in the minutes. These individual angles edited together for the final product. IMHO, why shoot footage you know that will never get past the ratings board? Corman had a hell of a time with them getting approval and he would never throw extra money on something that will never be seen. According to Jim Wynorski, he personally revamp and directed the scene after he deemed the already shot scene "lacking" or in other words.. T&A. The rest is history.
I posted a aftermath or incident with Taafee after she had finish shooting the scene on her old Yahoo group a while back. Check it out. Still a very tillating story indeed.. if I say so myself.:)
It's a short story that was related to me by JW, but i'm uncertain whether this post will end up being deleted so I searched, copy and pasted that story as well other tidbits I posted 3 years ago from her old group to the new one. Yes, I'm just too lazy to retype anything again. Head on over and enjoy.
I managed to score a copy of the red band 35mm trailer from ebay. I just kind of looked through it a bit. The thing was shipped in a plastic bag in a box and kind of came unraveled. I tried to starighten it out a little cause it wants to curl up. Talk about a trailer showing off all the good parts of the movie, I think it showed every death scene and I havent looked through all of it yet. It does have an alternate take from the maggot scene that was cut from the normal release because you can see more of her leg and bottom. Plus one of the tentacles is in a different position and one of her arms too.
