Journey to the 7th Planet
I recently re-watched JOURNEY TO THE 7th PLANET, an interesting early 60's B film. It had some compelling ideas, but was brought down by a very low budget, putting it in that 'interesting failure' rank. I always felt if it had a bigger budget, better FX and more time to work on the script, it could have been one of the far better genre films. Later, STAR TREK and TWILIGHT ZONE made use of some of its ideas.
It's mind control premise was taken from an earlier Ray Bradbury story, and the film came out a few years before the original version of SOLARIS.
I feel that GALAXY OF TERROR is somewhat of an improved remake, using many of the same ideas.
As much as I'm usually against remakes, I feel that both films could be merged into a potential classic, depending on who's involved.
I was always intrigued by the idea of one's own fears becoming real, and a good writer and director could do much with that.
Anyways, I had to get this out. And I was surprised to find out that Cameron worked on this.
