Christoper Plummer's character

Was Christopher Plummer's character a Mossad operative? At the beginning of the movie, he is dropped off at the El Al terminal at the airport. Sigourney Weaver's character asks, "Why so worried? You've been called back before." Intelligence officers are routinely sent back to their own countries for evaluation and debriefing.

I don't know.

But I have to say, I appreciate that they don't feel the need to explain everything. I hate loose ends, but in this case, it really doesn't matter that much. I much rather not knowing than having some crappy 'explanation' which no one would ever say in real life.

Who knows - everything in this film is terribly sketchy and undercooked and the whole affair with Plummer and his scheming seems like it was barely given a thought. The way they`re trying to force character development by having the supporting cast randomly relate stuff about themselves in dialogue is rather desperate as well. And Hurt is right - the dialogue is indeed often very corny.

What about the non-resolution of not only Siggy's mom and dad being complicit in Long's murder (and Plummer's henchwoman, who apparently exists in this movie only as an extra menace for the ridiculous shootout) but also Aldo's loan shark problem and Hurt's dad's being kicked out of the house and showing up at his apt. just so he can conveniently be there to tell Siggy where he went near the end.

he said that Long had turned him into a murderer, which made it seem like he was new to this sort of thing. but, then he was really good at picking locks! so who knows?

speaking of the lock scene: did he poison the dog? if so, why did he leave and then come back? that felt a bit awkward to me... as if he didn't poison the dog. some weird plot jumps here and there.

This country is loaded with israeli spies. As well as people who spies can call on, for help.
The question is why would Israel want a former Vietnamese criminal dead just because he was not successful in getting Jews out of Russia? Were they trying to say that "Long" was stealing their money or selling them out to Rus agents?
