Is it me or does some of the performances feel like they dubbed themselves in post production?

Yes but in this one, even Merlin and Arthur sound loud as a foreign film dubbed in English!

Also there was no need to ask that! I for one do not have that problem but I had to point out that detail to compare the sound quality of this and how much everything has changed that actors can get away with projecting less with their dialogue thanks to a more advanced mic.

It is pretty weird, like they couldn't somehow afford to have location sound recording.

Probably. That was more common with movies than we realize.
