when the guy kisses Andrew Stevens' character. Was he planning on raping him ?? Why weren't the other characters upset by this ??

shareI thought about that too. They seemed kind of amused, like, "Oh, look at that, pretty funny!" Lee Marvin even made a comment about Stevens getting riled up.
shareI think with the shortage of women to go around up in Aklavik at the time they were probably used to all types, or rather were familiar enough with Hazel's sense of humor to know if it wasn't supposed to be serious. But I wonder ... Hell the bounty hunter team of the retard & the greaser always seemed to have some sort of relationship that was a bit more than just expediency. They definitely were going for a DELIVERANCE type moment their with one of them "Now let's just you drop them pants" kind of exchanges, with Andrew Stevens getting to mollify the aggressive young males in the audience with a good, healthy bloody nose for the indignity.
share Just from my perspective , I saw no expression of sexuality in "the kiss" ; I found it analogous to the male-to-male kiss delivered in the Peckinpah directed classic staring James Coburn , James Mason and Maximilien Schell , "Cross of Iron". ... something born of desperation , frustration , and contempt (not for a specific individual , but rather a situation) - a statement or metaphoric insult directed at a reality , while at the same time an impulsive reference to a genuine expression of affection / sexuality , something very far removed . As I interpret "the kiss" as being totally asexual , "homo/hetro" is a non issue .
Again , as with anything , I could be wrong .
I'm tempted to close with a "See ya around ..." (Marvin's "signature line") , but if he made such a remark in "Death Hunt" , I must have missed same . Anyway , I do enjoy your commentary .
Regards , walt

Lee Marvin's line to the Andrew Stevens character was "Well, well. Look who just got uncivilized."
shareEd Lauter's character wasn't trying to work him in a rage. He could give two *beep* He wanted him some "Pretty white boy" ass. An Lee Marvin's character just wanted to see if he could handle himself. Some of you guys are looking way to into this. Its not Ang Lee. wwmfjr, I'm looking in your direction.
