Did anybody else notice Wizard of Oz-references like crazy?

Did anybody else notice Wizard of Oz-references like crazy?

I don't know if this was discussed already, but I felt like the creator practically took ideas from The Wizard of Oz and turned them into a horror movie. I think this is partly why I liked it so much.

Like what? (Aside from the scarecrow.)

Bubba - the scarecrow - was mentally challenged while the scarecrow in the Wizard of Oz claimed he didn't have a brain.

When the little girl with braids breaks into a neighbour's yard she sees several garden-gnomes - this is very similar to Dorothy exploring Munchkin Land - a flowery place inhabited by little people.

One of the men in the mob had a bad heart and died of a heart attack - the Tinman claimed he didn't have a heart.

The first man to die is seen working on a metal machine with an oil can - another Tinman reference.

These are just a few.

I did the same thing with Jonathan Winters appearance on Scooby doo forty years ago. They tangled with a scarecrow and I was like, WOW, it's the Wizard of Oz!

Jonathan Winters in drag, WOW, it's Auntie Em!

Shaggy was afraid, WOW, it's the cowardly lion!

For the record, garden gnomes can be traced back to 17th century Europe.

There's no need to be snarky about this.

BadNixie: I can see where you're coming from. It wouldn't surprise me if the director and/or script writer threw in a few references. The WIZARD OF OZ was being played on tv since the 1960's, which means that both of them were no doubt influenced heavily by it as kids.

There's a need to be snarky then, for several reasons.

first, by replying to BadNixie in the same response to me, this means BadNixie will be not seeing this response, only I will.

Second, since you missed my point, let's see if I can be a bit more blunt and thereby even more 'snarky'.

There are as many references to Wizard of Oz in Dark Night of the Scarecrow as there is in the Scooby movie with Jonathan Winters, as there is in Children of the Corn, as there is in Heckle and Jeckle cartoons.

In other words, NONE.

And by the way, Wizard of Oz began airing on tv in '56.

Furthermore, if any writer or producer worth his capabilities were to emulate the Wizard of Oz, they would focus on the book, not the movie.

You're definitely reading too much into this.
