Maybe it's my interpretation, but to me 'the chasing game' the girl mentions at the end implies Bubba will continue to go after his tormenters wherever they ended up! Brrrr. And good for Bubba.

The ending didn't chill me it left me with an acute sense of sadness. I felt for the two lead characters the whole time they were on-screen. Sadly most of us can relate to the story of a man persecuted for being different, we've either experienced similar in our own lives or we know someone close to us who has.

Dark Night isn't really a horror film in the conventional sense, it's a film about loss as much as it is a film about one mans descent in to madness and chaos. Beautifully written and the ensemble cast are a pleasure to watch.

P.S I think a lot of people don't understand what the story is really about and concentrate far too much on the scarecrow/monster aspect - the real monsters are those Bubba leaves behind.

I re-posted it above. But you have to fast forward to the last couple minutes for the 'true ending'.

An excellent post, RobsBottin. I agree 100%. That was part of what chilled me so much I think, the loss aspect of it. Poor Bubba may have gotten his revenge, but he's still dead and he was still innocent.
And lonely.

"I'd say this cloud is Cumulo Nimbus."
"Didn't he discover America?"
"Penfold, shush."

He may have been dead, innocent and lonely-but he still had that ONE TRUE FRIEND in that little girl who still accepted him no matter what.
