I LOVE how Hazelrigg was helped so he could "tell the truth".

I love the ending too! Simply great!
Prostitute: What the *beep* are you doing?
Johnny: I'm gonna kill a bunch of people.
What is so effective about it is the singing of the girl Marylee, as she and Bubba/Scarecrow resume their friendship after his murder had been avenged.
A classic TV film that was worthy of a theatrical release.
All round classic!
shareI loved it. It was a full circle, the pitchfork he put in Bubba's hand was the same object that killed him in the end. Karma.

what i loved about it was the money shot at the end: you really don't know who or what is avenging bubba until you actually see the scarecrow turn his head to look at Marylee! it's such an effective "holy crap!" moment!
i only recently came upon this little gem, and i wish that i had seen it when it had originally aired! it has become one of my annual Halloween favorites!
"will someone tell that mime to shut up?"
At first I was disappointed when I saw the tractor driving all by itself (I hate when these kinds of movie turns out to be supernatural).
I was hoping to actually see the scarecrow kill the postman and his buddies but at the end it was just perfect that way. It would have been lame to find out it was the girl or the lawyer under that mask. Thanks Bubba!
Totally agree. That ending was very haunting and will stick with me for life. I can't believe this was a made for TV movie. IMO, it's vastly superior to the crap that passes for horror today. This movie had true suspense which is something you don't see anymore.
Long live the 70's!
I'm re-watching it now. I love how you never see the scarecrow move until the end with that slight move of the head toward the girl; great scene!
