False Accusing Vigilantes

Just want to point out this movie exposes a valid mindset in people who point the finger at those who are innocent. They use it as a smokescreen to cover up their own twisted desires. Unfortunately, plenty of Hazelrig's do exist out there.

Yes, you are correct. And he's lucky they had the pitchfork at the time or else he would've been doomed. To me, it's really sad how Bubba had an innocent friendship with a child and people's minds automatically went to something lewd. As the mom said, he has the mental capacity of a child so he isn't going to have much in common with other adults his age unless they too have developmental disabilities. In this case, it sounds like Otis was just jealous because HE was the one with impure thoughts and was jealous because Marylee paid more attention to Bubba than him.

Burn, witch! Burn, witch! Burn! Burn! Burn!

Good point about Marylee.
Got to feel sorry for her. Bubba dies and then she goes to visit Mrs. Ritter, her only link to Bubba and she dies!
And why was she out so late the night Otis died? She seems to keep late hours for a child.

A good detective of Columbo's character--could SURELY have blown AWAY their "alibi".

To begin with--since Bubba was retarded---I'm SURE they would have asked his mother if he had any sort of pitchfork. When she said she did not know of one he had..THEN--the serial # on the fork(I am SURE there was one), could be traced to the store where it had been sold. Since Lane Smith's character owned a farm--it is likely he had bought it along with a lot of other things, and NOT paid by cash. Once it was established that it was HIS fork.....in Bubba's hand--that would have SEVERELY damaged their alibi...
