I LOVE BRIDGES...BUT JOHN HEARD DEVOURS THIS FILM...HE IS MAGNETIC...AND YET...HE BECOMES KEVIN MCALLISTERS DAD AND NOT A WHOLE LOT MORE...HOW?

Agreed. John Heard apparently had problems with alcohol and ended up arrested for assaulting his girlfriend Melissa Leo and trespassing at her home.
