WHY PULL IT OUT OF DISTRIBUTION AND RELEASE IT LATER WITH NEW TITLE?

THIS FILM OPENED, AS 'CUTTER AND BONE' IN EARLY SPRING OF 1981, TO SELECTED THEATRES IN SELECTED CITIES AND PULLED OUT OF DISTRIBUTION AFTER ONE WEEK.

IT WAS RELEASED IN THE SUMMER OF OF 1981 TO ONE THEATRE IN MANHATTAN, AND PLAYED THERE UNTIL LATE FALL OF 1981.

POR QUE'?

HAD THEY CUT FOOTAGE OR SOMETHING? IS THERE AN UNCUT VERSION SOMEWHERE?

THIS WAS THE BEST WORK JOHN HEARD HAS EVER DONE?

ANYBODY? ANYBODY?

According to Danny Peary's Cult Movies books, the studios did not excise anything. They just changed the title because they thought folks might think it was a different kind of film. Peary suggests that Cutter & Bone sounds like a comedy about orthopedic surgeons.
