Even if you hate Uwe Boll, give Postal a try, be offended or entertained.
i saw "creature" maybe some time ago very late at night, and laughed so hard i cant remember when it was last that i thought a movie was so funny .... in terms of funny its a 10/10 movie.
older movies were funnier anyway - todays "comedies" and spoofs i wouldnt even watch cause they are JUST NOT FUNNY - i just watched scary movie (the first one) and stopped watching todays crap cause its unwatchable...
these "Current people" needs to check themselves
i think the funniest movies i saw in recent years were
-Return of the killer tomatoes
- car54 where are you
- down under
and "creature"
which are all in the bottom 100 for some reason !!
I love Disaster Movie, and I'm going to check out Seltzer & Friedberg's other efforts. I can't understand why so many people can't stand Disaster Movie.
I couldn't stand this. I have a lot of patience for Leslie Nielsen as when he was in a good film he really sold it, but nobody could save this. It was dire. I would go as far as to say it was worse than the Coreys' The Last Resort from 1994. TBH I think you can see/hear the pain in Nielsen and some of the other actors in their performance.
You mention Boll in your sig - from many people's descriptions he sounds terrible, but I loved Postal and quite liked Rampage. Taste and sense of humour are funny things aren't they.
My inclination is that your friends enjoyed the current "_______ Movie" parodies more, because they understand the up-to-date targets. The targeted pop-culture in "Naked Space" is dated in comparison and might get over some viewer's heads today. Points to anyone born after 1990 who gets the reference in the final scare at the end.
shareIn addition to what you said about older references, I think the whole presentation was in a different vein, it actually reminded me of an early Mel Brooks film like "12 Chairs" or even Gene Wilder's "Sherlock Holmes' Smarter Brother". What I mean is that the gags are very subtle, and sometimes they almost feel like a missed opportunity. But the point is the humor is there, just not as wacky as we might expect.
The "____ Movie" genre, which itself was influenced by the "_____!" films (Airplane! Hot Shots! Top Secret!) is hilarious because it's so absurd, it's truly surreal comedy. But here we have a movie that's mostly rooted in reality. To me, that made it especially funny in those scenes when we finally get hit over the head with absurdity (like the creature's debut scene!).
Of course it doesn't help that the film was falsely marketed to the "_____!" crowd with the title change to "Naked Space". And I also read somewhere that the final editing was done without the director's approval. But this movie has a certain charm you can't deny.
