Current state of "Legend of Conan" + story synopsis revealed!

Despite being announced as early as 2012, «Legend of Conan» still has no director and no release date. In this video we explore the reasons behind the delay, the current state of the production, and which story the screenplay is based upon.

Short summary:

- The production was initially delayed due to a (frivilous) lawsuit over the Conan rights.
- In terms of earnings and franchise portfolio, Universal is in a very different position today than they were when they started "Legend of Conan".
- "Legend of Conan" not longer looks like the surefire hit post-Scharzenegger comeback it did pre-Schwarzenegger comeback.
- The screen story is based upon the novel "Legend" by David Gemmell.

What do you all think of this?

Couldn't they base it on The Hour of the Dragon by Robert E. Howard--that being the first Conan novel--rather than on a novel written by an author whose work deserves independent adaptation?

Requiescat in pace, Krystle Papile. I'll always miss you.

I've always thought that Legend would make a good basis for a third Conan movie. The legendary, aging warrior coming out of seclusion for one last great battle.

The various subplots of Legend are kinda wonky, but the basic story is a good starting point IMO.

I do agree w/GreatWhiteApeofBarsoom that Gemmell's stuff deserves a look as a direct adaptation; particularly his Troy trilogy.

Yeah, this is like making "Murder on the Orient express" into a Sherlock Holmes movie.

The books are good but movie versions would be unlikely since the Brad Pitt Troy isn't that old yet.

Thanks for the link.

I hate how they are now planning to make Conan the King not actually be Conan the King in the new film! What a huge cop-out!

They need to "axe" that idiotic "Conan retreated to live alone in the mountains" bull crap plot line before any filming starts, or it probably will flop.

Instead, they need to show Conan ruling, and dealing with backstabbers in his court, etc...let's see how and why his brow got so troubled...and then have it culminate in a huge war with another (or many other) kingdoms.
