A pivotal part of the whole film, is when she pushes her way to the front row and gets to stare up at her idol (Bowie) through drug glazed eyes....
shareIn real life she's a huge Bowie fan and I didn't read the book but I heard she was a big fan in the book too. But in the movie, she doesn't seem like she is. But that must be because of the drugs. She even sells her Bowie records just to buy Heroine.
But I think the fact that she was a Bowie fan should have made more clear in the movie. It played an important role in her life you know.
Christiane being such a big Bowie fan was important . When she sold her fantastic collection of Bowie's albums for heroin that was showing finally how deeply she was descending into the addiction - any addict will tell you I believe there is one pivotal well loved item belonging to you or someone you know that the selling of to get drugs marks the point where the addiction means more to you. And yes, I'm speaking from experience as a reformed addict and I sold my bowie albums, valuable bootlegs, and my engagement ring, then I knew I was stuffed.
I'm been sober for 13 years now!

she was deffo into Bowie - her idolisation for him and his music played a huge part in the book. What's weird is that she went to see him during the Station to Station tour when Bowie himself was at an all-time junkie low. He said in later interviews his habit was so bad he cannot remember anything about making the the Station to Station album. (which ironically led him to move to Berlin of all places to kick the habit). So the junkie-Bowie connection is very valid.
Naughty naughty!
Seeing her sell her Bowie albums was heart-breaking! I love David Bowie and I would much rather go hungry than sell my albums!
*imagines myself on the street living in a cardboard box...Well, actually, the box is for my Bowie stuff. I would just sleep on the sidewalk.* lol
Pray that there's intelligent life somewhere up in space 'cos its bugger all down here on Earth.
in the book she describs bowie as her and her freinds "star of stars" so yes in real life she was a big bowie fan.
