They should make a remake of this movie

I absolutely love the original but I think it would capture so many teens around the world if they made a remake. Still as realistic and graphic, still as a German production - not American! lol

Still, presumably, set in the late 1970's. Still maintaining fidelity to the written account of this particular girl's experiences. Still utilising the austerity of a crumbling, cold war Berlin as a backdrop....

All in all, sounds like the only reason to remake it is to "capture... teens around the world." In which case there's no point in remaking it at all. There are plenty of heroin stories, plenty of cautionary tales involving drugs and the grimmer aspects of life, plenty of kids have and continue to fall into this lifestyle.

The chances of telling this particular story on film again with any genuine improvement would seem to me rather slim. Christiane F's story is not unusual - indeed it's archetypal, almost a cliche, a trope.

If you were to say to me someone should attempt to make a film today that was as honest and non-sensationalised as this one I'd agree. As for remaking this one: it would be an exercise in futility. The result would be, at best, a (pseudo-) historical artefact.

Decadence is deluded

Priceless

I have no intention of replying to organicprankster, just as I have never written to Gorbo.

Funny how you didn't write to "Gorbo" with the same "heads up" when you were rumbled by myself and one other! Now why could that be??????????

I neither know nor care what is going on here with you people. If you believe me to be someone's sock-puppet, or someone to be mine, you are barking up the wrong tree but no matter. You're free to think whatever you like. I'd just suggest to you both that not filling up boards reserved for specific topics with your bulls--t Internet drama might be a nice touch. Y'know, polite.

I think the original will work on teens nowadays too. They should just show this classic more around the world.

The problem is not the original film its the absolutely appalling American dubbed version. Try seeing the original subtitled if you can (although its probably only available in Western Europe as over here films are very rarely dubbed as most markets don't like it) - you will be amazed at how much you pick up from the dialogue even if you don't know a word of German. Remaking it would be utterly pointless - what would be the reason? is it really that today's teens can't relate to anything where people are dressed in different fashions and without gameboys and malls or something? Heroin would be the least of their future concerns in that case....

I'd prefer a re-release with english subtitles for us R1 people, if not a release with more features (ie interviews/stories/etc). Even if Germany or Berlin was exactly as it was 30 years ago, I don't think it would be possible to retell this story without changing it enough so that it's no longer her story.

You can buy a cheap dvd player and hack it yourself to make it region free. That's what I did and I bought an import version of this movie from Australia with the original language and english subs. The dub is horrible. In case you're interested here's a link to a site that gives you the hacks.
