I saw this in the cinema when it first came out,I used to have a VHS tape and today I bought a region 2 dvd (£20,a lot of money).
It says it is a remastered version which I think is a recent release but what about the content ?.
I recall there being more than one version of this film,newspapers said the British version had been cut and the VHS had the same cuts I assume,so did some countries get a longer version with more graphic scenes?
I have a region 2 DVD which I haven't watched for some time but I seem to recall that it is the full length version.
I would suggest that the best way to find out is to check its running time. The uncut version (according to IMDB) is 138 minutes with the cut version being 7 minutes less at 131 minutes.
The other thing to watch out for is to make sure you have got the version that has subtitles, not the version with the English dubbing. From what people say on these boards, the overdubbing is absolutely awful and completely spoils the film. My Region 2 version has subtitles, so I suspect that yours will too.
