Is there a dvd version with english subtitles?

I just got this from Netflix, but there are no subtitles available, so I have to watch it with the dubbed english lines. I can't get over the terrible voiceovers in order to really get into the movie. Does anyone know if there is a DVD of this movie with German audio and English subtitles?

reply

There are copies of this movie with English subtitles (I know how painful it is to watch it dubbed) on Image Entertainment. Hope that helps.

reply

Thanks! Yeah, I didn't even watch the one I had from Netflix. I'll look for that, thanks again!

Try the above link.

(I know it is illegal, but being an old movie and a must watch, lets bend the rules for once. Anyway, where I live, this is my only option to watch these movies[Only new titles ship here in DvDs]...)

ah im not far into it and I can already tell it's gonna be good. usually if a movie loses me within ten minutes I'm gone, but this one already has me hooked (it's not that I'm judgmental that fast, I just have a horrible attention span with movies haha)

I have it on a LEGAL DVD with English subtitles. It also comes with Danish subtitles (if any Scandinavian people on here have trouble finding it with their native subs).

Where did you get it? What company released it?

This is the one I have and it has the original language with english subs, definetly better than the horrible english dubbed one. Only thing is you need a region free dvd player.

I remember watching this in the 80's when it first came out on video (Betamax, of all things), so I couldn't believe it when I saw it in HMV, had to buy it there and then. You can still purchase it from HMV.com & Play.com in the original form of German language with English subtitles, much better than the spoilt dubbed versions.

This movie is in need of a proper release!

Agreed!

I saw it with English subtitles at a cinema in Camden Town (London) in December 1981. There was also a dubbed version showing simultaneously at another London cinema. The BBFC certificate said "Christiane F.(Subtitled)" which suggested that the UK censors had viewed both versions. Incidentally I don't know if the film was ever shown on British TV.
