Does anyone know what happened to the real Detlef? I haven't read the book so I'm wondering if Christiane saw him after she talked to the newspaper. Also, if she was still doing drugs into the 90s she might have run into him at the usual places.

The actor who played Detlev said this about the real Detlev, in an interview:
Q. Did you meet the real Detlev R.?
A. No, I never saw him at all. I only knew something about him years later. He was working for a welfare community, driving a bus for handicapped people, doing OK, and living with his wife and family in Berlin.
